WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
The third novel in the Rebel Vampires series – Blood Renegades. It’s released this June. I’m excited about this one. We get to see a Magnificoe – one of the truly powerful Blood Lifers. In the past, they would have reigned over the other Blood Lifers. But times have changed… Something catastrophic happens, which puts them all in jeopardy. As a writer, that’s fun to plan and write. I’m also writing some short stories and I always love that.
WHAT IS THE NEXT BOOK TO BE RELEASED?
Rebel Vampires Volume 1: Blood Dragons is out now and can be bought here. Rebel Vampires Volume 2: Blood Shackles was released on November 1st and can be ordered here. Blood Renegades is released in June.
WHAT IS URBAN FANTASY?
A difficult question! It’s my favourite genre to read and to write. Being ‘urban’, the city becomes central. It can be set in any time period. But people debate the subdivisions of fantasy. Especially between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. It’s been said they share 95% of the same DNA. The main difference is that in urban fantasy, although love often drives the main character, their journey is the focus. Redemption or revenge. Not simply the romance between two characters. But in the end, what does it matter? It’s the story, which counts.
WILL FANTASY REBEL BE RELEASING ANY NEW SERIES?
YES! As well as further volumes in the Rebel Vampires series to look out for, there will be a brand new series starting… I’m planning it now. It’s the most blissful stage. I dive deep into my brain. Submerge myself into the world, until it falls into place. Then I start to write.
WHAT IS DARK FICTION?
My psychological thrillers – and dark fantasy – often are described as this. It means dark tales, with emotion at their heart.
WILL FANTASY REBEL BE RELEASING A BOOK UNDER THE DARKER REBEL IMPRINT?
YES! I can exclusively tell you the first draft is already written. It’s a mysterious tale, which will sweep you into a dark and shocking world.
WHY A REBEL?
When I watch movies, or go to the theatre, I find myself rooting for the wrong person. The one you’re meant to boo. I see their flaws. The motivations for why they’ve fallen. I love it when (often TV shows), are complex enough to show people as individual. Neither good nor bad. When they don’t stick everyone in a box.
I love people, who are brave enough to stand up for who they are. Or what they believe. It’s even better when they stand up for someone else. I think most people feel like the outsider, at some point in their life. So each of my books have that rebel spirit in them too.
WHEN DID YOU START WRITING?
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t write! I announced when I was four that I was going to be a writer. I made a book out of A4 sheets at school, including blurb, cover and barcode when I was five. I wrote my first (poor!) attempt at a novel, when I was eight. If I could only ever scribble my writing on the back of brown paper bags or cardboard coasters for the rest of my life – I would be doing that.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE BEST ABOUT WRITING?
The ability to lose yourself. To entirely inhabit the head, heart and world of someone else. To love like they do. To feel, as they do. It’s like the escape of reading but magnified a thousand times. It’s like being able to live a hundred or more reincarnated lives. Magical.
